Jonathan Harris on Culture in the Digital Age

When I was younger and people asked me who I'd want to be like when I grew up, I'd say in the most matter-of-fact way, "Like Daddy!"
Today, as a copywriter in digital space, if someone asked me the same question, I'd probably say, "... Jonathan Harris."

From creating something as intricate and beautiful as 'We Feel Fine' way back in 2007 to 'Cowbird,' his most recent labour of love, each of Jonathan Harris' projects have made me gasp in wonder and feel ambitious and ridiculously hopeful about the medium I have chosen to play with everyday.

In the light of his most recent story-telling project, here he is talking about the four trends - Compression, Disposability, Curation, and Self-Promotion, that are shaping Culture in the Digital Age.
No amount of slideshare presentations can sum up the nature and direction of Social Media any better.

Bamboo Happy B'day

a few months ago, on a day when i was feeling particularly honest (and ballsy) I told BB (who made me this last year) that I didn't think there was much hard labour involved in digital art. he maintained a dignified silence at the time and didn't argue with me one bit, but this past weekend when i turned a year older, he gifted me a Wacom Bamboo.

soon after running myself through the tutorial, this was the first thing i drew for him.

My head just sploded with all the cuteness.

Her Morning Elegance

It's been more than a year since I first saw this video and heard this track and I never tire of either.

I have fans, they're hard core

I received one of the cutest, brightest and weirdest love letters this afternoon.
It's so trippy, innit?

Jeez Louise

Today, I tripped over French Art Director Maxime Bruneel's simple but lovely website.
His latest work is a video for a mysterious musical duo that goes by the moniker 'Secret Skwirl.'
I suppose if I was in the business of making videos, I would've taken to this execution style in an instant.

Yahoo!

Ernest Hemingway on writing,
"Work every day. No matter what has happened the day or night before, get up and bite on the nail."

I can safely say that it's the same when it comes to ideas. Many a times they go unrecognised, but sometimes, they don't. So when, at some award function, they are granted a miniature chair, you're allowed to, kinda, sorta, surely, show them off!
(Right? Right? Right?)

Here it is!
Another feather in our (and my) hat; Jaago Re won a Silver at the Yahoo Big Idea Chair Awards last night.

So what if we didn't win the actual Big Idea Chair, we'll try again next year. And just in case we run out of patience before that, I suppose we'll just get our own giant thrones made.

A Gif Gift

I make things for people most of the time.
So it's only normal that i'd appreciate it tremendously, if things were made for me.
Even it was a .gif.
Thanks to the mad talented BB.
No one has ever made me a gift or a gif before.
P.S: Also, there's a giant XO there for a split second before the 'happy birthday.' Did you notice?

Going Crazy with Print Screen

Step 1: Bawdy copy is presented to me in small font, on an excel sheet.
Step 2: I take a screen shot of the sheet and discover new ways of dealing with the bawdy copy that is presented to me in small font, on an excel sheet.
Step 3: I get totally sidelined after I take a screen shot of the sheet and discover new ways of dealing with the bawdy copy that is presented to me in small font, on an excel sheet.

Result: Screen shots of screen shots of screen shots of screen shots of ... you get the point.

Server Reality

This is not a server error message.
This is some kind of twisted life lesson being relayed back to me by the world wide web.
And I really can't understand why, because I come across this, 'Understood but refusing to fulfil' business, with human beings of all sorts, almost every day.
If the www were my friend, it'd surely be one that believes in tough love.

Click on the image to watch the Depressing Alphabet.
Quite wonderful, might I add. And a bit Poe-esque too.
